HTTP 200 — OK
HTTP 200 is the standard success answer: the request was understood, accepted and answered, and the payload in the body is the result. GET returns the resource, POST returns the outcome of the action.
When 200 shows up
- Successful reads of any resource — pages, JSON records, files.
- Mutations that complete and return their result inline rather than at a new URL.
Mocking a 200 response
A response with this status can be faked end to end with a local mock rule — no backend changes needed. The configuration below mirrors the rule fields the ApiSimul editor uses (method, path, status, delay in milliseconds, response body):
{
"method": "GET",
"path": "/api/users/{{param.id}}",
"status": 200,
"delay": 250,
"enabled": true,
"body": {
"id": "{{param.id}}",
"name": "{{random.name}}",
"email": "{{random.email}}",
"active": true
}
}Dynamic placeholders such as {{random.name}}, {{string.uuid}} or {{number.int 1 100}} can appear inside the body to vary each response, which keeps client-side list rendering and retry logic honest during development.
Frequently asked questions
What does HTTP 200 mean?
The request succeeded. Whatever the method was supposed to do, the server reports that it happened, and the body holds the representation or result.
How can I test a 200 response without a real backend?
Define a mock rule with the method and path your client requests and set the status to 200. The example configuration above returns this response after the listed delay, so the client exercises its 200 handling exactly as it would against a live server.
